There is a question that haunts me as an artist and that is "what have you been working on?" Lately, I have been responding to that question by saying that I am quitting the art world for love. In my mind that means flying over seas to give my friends a hug after a long pandemic. It means driving to Chicago to distribute flowers to the people that I think about consistently. It means falling in love every day with an intention of being radically honest. What if we all decided to be a bit more transparent with each other?

For this installation, Cartas de amor, I am presenting  letters that I have written to 25 people who I have loved dearly during my time in the art world. The timeline includes people that I have met between 2009 and 2022. In these letters I write about love, friendship, and heartbreak. I have collected a vast knowledge of the art world from my many peers, mentors, and genius friends. I hid a lot from some of these people because of doubt, embarrassment, and fear. Finally, I am able to share and process the experiences that shaped my art world. This work was up for six months at moCa Cleveland and I see it as an experiment for energy to collect onto material. It is an opportunity for the letter receiver to "travel for love" (adrienne maree brown). The letters are titled and organized in alphabetical order but exclude the letter U. I hope that my truth will reflect your own truth.
